Mainland Greece Day Trips From Corfu
Corfu is two kilometres off the Greek mainland. Two very different days run across the water — a 15-hour coach run to the monasteries of Meteora, and boat days on the Epirus coast from $30. A third, Ioannina, is no longer sold.
A mainland Greece day trip from Corfu means one of two things. Either a boat across the narrow channel to the Epirus coast — Parga, Sivota and the Blue Lagoon, 4 to 12 hours, from $30 — or the coach and ferry run to Meteora, the UNESCO monasteries built on rock pillars in Thessaly, which takes 15 hours and runs one day a week from $98. A third option, the Ioannina and lake island day, was sold until recently but is no longer bookable: we checked the listing on 5 August 2026 and it no longer resolves to a product.

What these numbers actually say
- The two mainland days are not comparable experiences. Meteora is scenery and monasteries, reached by ferry and coach; the Epirus boats are swimming and coastal towns. Choosing between them on price alone misses the point.
- Meteora costs three times a Blue Lagoon cruise for a reason. $98 covers a car ferry both ways, a long coach transfer, a guide and lunch. It is not a marked-up boat trip.
- One product has disappeared since we first wrote about it. The Ioannina day trip no longer resolves on the booking platform. We have left the page up with a notice rather than quietly deleting it — if it comes back, it comes back.
- The cheapest mainland day sails from the far south. $30 from Lefkimmi is real, but Lefkimmi is about an hour from Corfu Town. The six boats compared explains which leave from where.

Meteora — if you want the sight
Six working Orthodox monasteries on top of sandstone pillars in Thessaly, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the strangest landscapes in Europe. From Corfu it is a car ferry, a long coach ride inland and back, and a fixed weekday departure. Fifteen hours, $98, lunch included, rated 4.7. Bring shoulder and knee covering — the monasteries enforce it.
The Epirus coast — if you want the water
The mainland shore opposite Corfu: the Blue Lagoon among the Sivota islets, the fishing village of Sivota, and the town of Parga under its Venetian castle. Six boats sell it, from $30 to $62, and the day runs 4 to 12 hours depending on the route. Only one of them stops in Parga.
Ioannina — not currently an option
The lakeside city in the Epirus mountains, with its island monasteries and Ottoman old town, used to be sold as a day trip from Corfu. As of 5 August 2026 the listing no longer resolves to a bookable product. We have kept the page with a notice on it, because the information about the place is still true — but do not plan a day around it without checking first.
The mainland port is Igoumenitsa, about an hour and a half by car ferry from Corfu Port, with several sailings a day. Everything inland — Parga, Sivota, Ioannina, Meteora — is reached by road from there.

Can you do a day trip to mainland Greece from Corfu?
Yes. Corfu sits about two kilometres off the Epirus coast, and two kinds of mainland day trip run from the island. The boat days cross to the coast opposite — Parga, Sivota and the Blue Lagoon — and take 4 to 12 hours. The coach day takes the car ferry to Igoumenitsa and drives inland to Meteora, which is a 15-hour commitment. Both are in Greece, so no passport formalities.
Is the Meteora day trip from Corfu worth 15 hours?
Meteora is a UNESCO World Heritage site — Orthodox monasteries built on top of sandstone pillars, unlike anywhere else in Europe. The trip is rated 4.7 across 40 reviews. But it is 15 hours door to door, most of it on a coach and a ferry, and it runs on a fixed weekday. If you have one spare day and want scenery you cannot see anywhere else, it earns the hours. If you want a beach day, it does not.
What happened to the Ioannina day trip?
It is no longer sold. We checked the operator listing on 5 August 2026 and the product no longer resolves — the link redirects to a category page with nothing bookable on it. Our Ioannina page stays up because the practical information is still accurate, but you cannot book that trip today. Meteora is the remaining long mainland day.
Which mainland trip is cheapest?
The boat days. A Blue Lagoon cruise starts at $30 from Lefkimmi in southern Corfu, and the Parga full-day from Corfu Town is $52. Meteora is $98 because it includes a car ferry, a long coach transfer, lunch and a guide. See the six boats compared.
Do I need a passport for mainland Greece?
No. Parga, Sivota, the Blue Lagoon, Igoumenitsa and Meteora are all in Greece. You only need a passport for the Albania trips, which cross a border and charge a border fee.
Can I get to the mainland independently?
Yes — the car ferry from Corfu Port to Igoumenitsa takes about an hour and a half and runs several times a day. From Igoumenitsa, Sivota is about 25 minutes by road and Parga about an hour. Meteora is roughly a three-hour drive inland. It is practical with a hire car and an early ferry; it is not practical on public transport in a single day.
When do mainland trips run?
The boat cruises run roughly May to October. Meteora runs on a fixed weekday and books out in high season — check the live calendar rather than assuming a date is available.
